What did we do before merino wool, eh? If you're used to synthetics, a merino base layer is an absolute game-changer. They're breathable, quick drying, odour-resistant and moisture-wicking. They come in various different weights, and this 210g one from Filson hits the sweet spot in terms of versatility. It's light enough to layer up under other stuff in colder conditions, but also thick enough to wear as a t-shirt on its own without doing that semi-see-through thing. The fit is trim but not body-stocking tight, and in fact the sizing is set up for US physiques, so in most cases the brand recommends sizing down.
